Oil, Eau de Perfume or Eau de Toilette? How Not to Get Lost While Choosing Your Next Fragrance.

Imagine this, you found your perfect perfume, but before buying you are facing the choice: Eau de Perfume, Eau de Toilette, Eau Fraiche, and even Perfume oil. Oh, the agony of choice! Not only that, but the price difference is insane! How to be? What to choose? The cheapest one like Eau de Fraiche? But why does it disappear from your skin after 5 minutes? No more stress, I got you.

There are indeed many forms of our beloved potion. But what is the difference? The concentration of the fragrance oils is the answer! I made this visual for you to understand how much fragrance oil your bottle contains. The main rule is: "The more fragrance oils your bottle contains- the longer it will stay on your skin".
The thing with choosing the right form of your perfume is your preference in how strong you want to smell like your fragrance. I would like to refer to one of my favorite perfume brands- Commodity for the perfect example of how brands should market their perfumes.
Scent Spaces
Commodity uses the so-called "Scent space" method. This method allows you to choose how intense you want your perfume to be.

Personal
Only the ones who are standing or sitting close to you will be able to smell your fragrance. You will have better control of how strong you want to smell by reapplying your perfume. I would say that Eau Fraiche and Eau de Cologne would be the alternative to the "Personal Space". Would be great for people who are very sensitive to smells and don't want to fill the room with their fragrance. Also, it is probably the cheapest version of your perfume, as it contains the least amount of the perfume oil, which makes it more expensive.
Expressive
The perfect balance between smelling nice and still not being invasive. However, people in the room would be able to smell your fragrance once you pass by. My perfect go-to if I go somewhere where I will be sitting close to people, for example on the train or an airplane. Eau de Toilette is the perfect alternative for an "Expressive Space", in my opinion. This version would be typically more expensive than the personal variant, because of the high concentration of the perfume oils.
Bold
You-will-smell-them-perfume-before-you-see-them type of fragrance. This type is surely not for everyone as it can be room-filling and sometimes slightly obnoxious, especially if we are talking about the gourmand category (Read my previous blog post about different perfume categories). But it will be the perfect kind for people who want to be there and be noticed. I have my sweet spot for those types of perfume, as I love to wear a fragrance that will smell for a long period.
Perfume Oils, Perfume, and Eau de Parfume will fit into this category just right. Does not need reapplying, great projection, and longevity. Those types of perfume have it all! However, this is the most expensive type of scent as it has the highest concentration of perfume oils, but in the end, you don't have to reapply it, so it will last you much longer.
As you can see, there are a lot of things to consider while choosing your next fragrance: your preference, budget, and how much you want your fragrance to be noted.
The are lots of brands that specialize in one type of perfume, such as Jo Malone (Eau de de Cologne) or Maison Francis Kurkdjian (Eau de Perfume).
