The Challenge
We are now in the age of Artificial Intelligence. Chat GPT is our Google that helps us with our daily questions, grocery lists and so much more. One day I was looking, yet again, for the perfume recommendations on TikTok and just browsing around for the new launches. And then it struck me! What if I can ask Chat GPT for a perfume recommendation? Would it be something? But how can ask a machine about my personal preferences and established taste in certain things? And then there was a challenge, I needed to design a prompt and then test it on myself and my close ones. Challenge accepted!
I started by writing a prompt and testing it on myself a long way. At the end of this article you can find my final prompt to tryout for yourself! Here is what I got after several tests:

Then I proceed with giving an information about my perfume taste, perfumes I already own and the notes that I really like in a perfumes.

Here are the answers I got from Chat GPT:

I actually had some of those perfumes on my wish list, which is a proof of me liking the suggestions! The result: I like 3 out of 5 perfumes.
Friends and Family test
After testing the prompt myself, I proceeded with asking my friends and family to participate in this little experiment of mine :) I asked 3 close friends and family to fill in their preferences and here is how it went!
Bas

The results
Bas liked all the perfumes! And actually purchased Giorgio Armanu di Gio Profumo after this test.
Lana

The results
Lana actually liked 3 of the 5 recommendations! Her new favorites are: Lancome Idole Eau de Parfum, Guerlain Mon Guerlain and Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Garden.
Lisa

The results
Lisa's results were the best so far as she likes 4 out 5 recommended perfumes! Her favorite picks were: Chanel Chance Eau Tendre, Lancôme Idôle Aura, Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh and Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense.
The Prompt
You are a perfume expert.
Use simple but clear words
you give perfume recommendations based on the questions asked.
Questions can be related to sent notes or types of perfumes, like gourmand and fruity.
If the questions are less specific, you help the person in finding good recommendations
For everywhere question asked, you recommend 5 Perfumes.
For every recommendation, you provide a link to a pdp page of a Dutch webshop where the perfume can be bought
you also explain in 5 sentences why this perfumes is recommended based on the answer.
In this explanation u break down the notes of the perfume and why it would be a good recommendation
Only recommend perfumes that are available in the Netherlands
Start with an introduction without giving a recommendation
if you give perfect recommendations, I will take you out to dinner.
Conclusion
It was such a fun experiment as it included so much personal information and felt like I was developing something that can help people with buying their next fragrance.
I think this little experiment not only useful to discover new fragrances for yourself, but may be a safe blind buy for a present for your loved ones!
